A new day nursery at St. Richard’s Hospital, Chichester providing accommodation for 58 children from ages 0-6 months, 6 months-2 years and 2-4 years within a modern, bright and airy environment. Three principal classbases are aligned to the south side of a central atrium activity/circulation spine to maximise daylight potential and access to external covered play areas, with support facilities, catering kitchen and staff/admin accommodation positioned to the north of the central area.
Through careful planning the design optimises useable floor space and facilitated and economic design and efficient construction process. The building operates in a stand-alone capacity within the grounds of an existing hospital facility and has been received positively by staff, children and parents alike.
